2008 Cremant de Bourgogne Louis Bouillot Perle d’Or

2008 Cremant de Bourgogne Louis Bouillot Perle d'Or Wine Review

2008 Cremant de Bourgogne Louis Bouillot Perle d'Or was one of the sparkling contenders for our holiday table.

About Winery

Louis Bouillot was founded in 1877 in a little village nestled the heart of the Côte d'Or by Jean Bouillot. Jean, a wine and spirits merchant. He was one of the few in his day to specialize in Crémant de Bourgogne. For over 140 years they continue to specialize in it and have acquired international fame as Crémant de Bourgogne experts.

That's one of the reasons why Perle d'Or (Golden Pearl) has all the hallmarks of some of the best and more expensive vintage Champagnes.

Appearance and Aromas

Perle d'Or has a golden straw color reflecting its age and fine bubbles.

The quintessential brioche nose leaps forward from the glass and is something we would expect from the infamous region north of Burgundy. Then it Perle d'Or follows with aromas of yellow apples, green pear, buttery, and honeycomb notes.

Palate

On the palate, it greats with a creamy mousse, refreshing acidity and right balance between acid and sugar. A sophisticated bouquet of ripe yet crisp apples, pears and a touch of almonds keeps you yearning for another sip.

The finish is rounded and has that perfect sweet yet sour taste and sustained almost apple pie with almonds aftertaste.

Wine Swinging Conclusion

We tasted it with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and fried chicken breast to check what would work better. Chick fillet won with a grand slam and we look forward to trying them together again.

Having tasted more than a few millesime Champagnes in the past, we would pick Perle d'Or over many of those and save some money. It's "a killer" deal at the price point of half or third of famous Champagne houses. The only reason it's less expensive is that it's borne in Bourgogne not Champagne. We are planning to take full advantage of that.

Cheers!
