2012 Chateau Climens Premier Cru Barsac is one of the best representations of Sauternes and one of the best dessert wines in the world. It comes from the estate in the Barsac the most prestigious part of Sauternes.
About The Estate
Climens is a continuous single vineyard of 74 acres and has practically remained unchanged since the 16th century. Throughout five centuries only five families owned this estate. Guirault Roborel, the king's Attorney General in Barsac inherited it from his father in 1547, and it stayed in a family until the beginning of the 19th century. In 1971 Lucien Lurton, the owner of several famous classified growths in the Medoc, purchased the estate. Since 1992 Berenice the daughter of Lucien Lurton makes sure that sweet magic of Climens keeps coming.
So when you drink this wine, you most definitely drink history. If you want something better than be ready to pay two to three times as much for the bottle of Chateau d'Yquem which is considered the best Chateau of the Sauternes region.
So if you're ok drinking the second best wine from the region considered as the birthplace of the best dessert wines in the world, Clemens will make you smile.
2012 Chateau Climens Premier Cru Barsac Tasting Notes
You'll be smiling from the first whiff to the last sip. The aromas of apricot, honey, brioche, a touch of ginger and candle max make it irresistible. The luscious taste of honey, marmalade, tangerine peel and toast balanced by the refreshing acidity turns it into heavenly nectar. It has the precise balance between the sweetness, acidic and astringent elements that every winemaker strives for in the dessert wine.
When it comes to dessert wine, this is as good as it gets. We can't have enough of it. It's delicious now and will only get better at it ages for the next 10-15 years. We would love to put aside a dozen or so bottles and taste them every year and compare.
