Château Saint Hubert Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2016

Château Saint Hubert Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2016

Chateau Saint Hubert Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2016 is an excellent example of the vintage in Bordeaux. Still, the quality of the wine may vary. We tasted many delicious wines of the 2016 vintage and some average ones as well.

Chateau Saint Hubert Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2016 belongs to the first category and is among the best 2016 Bordeaux we tasted. Saint Hubert comes from the Left bank and is a blend of Merlot 60%, Cabernet Franc 20%, and Cabernet Sauvignon 20%.

Vineyard Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

The grapes for this wine came from owner-winegrower Sce Vign. Aubert in Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. The average age of vines is around 40 years. It means that harvest is smaller and berries have a higher concentration of flavors.

Château Saint Hubert Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2016

Château Saint Hubert Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2016 is in the third quality tier from the top according to Saint-Émilion quality classification after Saint- Émilion Grand Cru Classé and Saint- Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé.

Château Saint Hubert Striving for Quality

It means that Château Saint Hubert produces some of the top wines in Saint-Émilion. Every decade Saint-Émilion AOC comes together to audit their quality classification, and every winemaker strives to elevate the status of his or her Château. Who knows but maybe in a few years, when AOC comes together, the status of Château Saint Hubert will be elevated even higher?

Aromas

Saint Hubert filled with seductively ripe fruit of black currant, plum, and black cherry, mineral notes of granite and graphite, and showing some age with leather and tobacco.

Flavors

It is an equally fruit-forward wine with flavors of black cherry and blackberry, plum and crème de cassis, and a touch of cured meats.

Finish

2016 Château Saint Hubert Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is a full-bodied, smooth, and jammy wine with well-incorporated high tannins and refreshing acidity.

The finish is long and concentrated with dark fruit.

It’s ready to be drunk now and can age for another 10-15 years.

Overall

To summarize, this is by far the best in quality and value of 2016 vintage Bordeaux we tasted so far. Totally worth some room in your cellar for the next ten years if you got some room for non-Grand Cru Classé wines. It’s going to be hard to restrain ourselves and not to drink it until 2030.

Keep in mind that if Château Hubert status is elevated in quality status in a few years, the same bottle may double or triple in price. Considering the quality of this wine, it’s definitely a jackpot under $25.
