Hermann J. Wiemer Wiemer Brut Rosé 2014 is a Méthode Champenoise sparkling wine from the Finger Lakes region of New York state, a hidden gem of American wine.
Having tasted Extra Brut Riesling 2016 earlier, we were looking forward to popping a more traditional bubbly from this producer made with a classic grape variety used in Champagne.
Hermann J. Wiemer Brut Rosé 2014
In the Bottle
2014 Brut Rosé made with 100% Pinot Noir from the estate fruit. Like a classic Champagne, it went through a second fermentation in the bottle with extended maturation on the lees and was disgorged in December 2019. What does it matter?
The second fermentation in the bottle is how the Méthode Champenoise sparkling wines get their tiny bubbles, delicate flavors, and brioche-like aromas.
So what did we taste in Wiemer’s Brut Rosé 2014?
In the Glass
Wiemer Brut Rosé 2014 is consistent from pale copper color to the aroma of tropical flowers, baked apple, Rainier cherry, and flavors of peach, apple, bee pollen, and light minerality.
The mousse is delicate and leaves a creamy sensation in the mouth.
Finish
As we write about this sparkling wine, all the scents and flavors rush back, making us salivate and wishing for more. Yes, it’s that good.
Wiemer’s Brut may not be purebred like Champagne; still, it can easily challenge its brethren from France.
