Very few in the wine world have shot to fame so fast and shine so bright as Charles Smith. He’s the guy behind K Vintners, Charles & Charles, ViNO CasaSmith, SIXTO, Substance, Kung Fu Girl Riesling, Eve Chardonnay, Chateau Smith Cabernet Sauvignon, The Velvet Devil Merlot, and Boom Boom! Syrah and HOUSE WINES labels.
After selling most of the labels to large wine conglomerate, he focused on producing premier wines under the K Vintners label.

In the Bottle
Charles Smith sources grapes for his wines from some of the premier sites of Columbia AVA.
The grapes for this wine came to the Deal Sundance Vineyard on Wahluke Slope of Columbia Valley AVA in Washington. Syrah was planted here in 1997, and it shows in the concentrated flavor of this wine.
In the Glass
K Deal Syrah has a deep ruby color.
We sensed chocolate, blueberry, roses, cedar, and a touch of smoke on the nose.
It’s a full-bodied wine with medium acidity and flavors of cherry, plum, chocolate, vanilla, and cedar.
Finish
2015 K Syrah is another excellent example of some of the premier sites of Columbia AVA. This powerful fruit-forward Syrah has almost a cult-like following. While we like this wine, we think it’s a bit overpriced. And those who after classic Syrahs like Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Cornas, or Saint-Joseph style Syrahs might find K Syrah too powerful and too chocolate.
