àMaurice Night Owl 2016 Red Blend

Combining International Women’s Day with the Washington Wine Month, we pulled out one of the beautiful blends purchased last year at a’Mourice tasting room: àMaurice Night Owl 2016.

Anna Schafer Cohen, partner and winemaker, did a beautiful job blending 49% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 9% Petit Verdot, all estate grown. The àMaurice estate vineyard lies at an elevation of 1475 ft. on a gentle southwest-facing slope in the valley of Mill Creek. The vines are planted in the Walla Walla silt loam, a deep, well-drained soil.

àMaurice Night Owl 2016 Tasting Notes

On a nose, we sensed cassis, ripe black currant, roasted hatch chili peppers, and blackberry preserves.
We tasted plum black currant preserve, dark chocolate, and coffee beans on the palate.

The wine matured beautifully, and we enjoyed the rounded and velvety structure, which didn’t demand much food.

aMaurice is among our favorite Washinton state producers. What is yours?
