2015 Domaine la Remejeanne Cotes-du-Rhone Rouge Les Arbousiers

2015 Domaine la Remejeanne Cotes-du-Rhone Rouge Les Arbousiers

2015 Domaine la Remejeanne Cotes-du-Rhone Rouge Les Arbousiers comes from the certified organic Domaine located in the small high altitude village of Sabran in Southern Rhone.

The vineyards are planted at a relatively high altitude between 600 to 900 feet. Effectively, it’s a cooler climate than Chateauneuf-du-Pape or Gigondas and results in livelier and fresher wines not often encountered in the Southern Rhone.

The owners Rémy Klein and his son Oliver practice traditional methods to reflect the terroir and in pursuit of the highest quality of the wine. The grapes for Domaine la Remejeanne hand-harvested and hand-sorted to make sure the best fruit makes into a bottle. The fermentation is long and done with native yeast in. Wine is aged in concrete and older wood barrels.

In the bottle

2015 Domaine la Remejeanne Cotes-du-Rhone is a blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%). It has a deep ruby color, just as we expect from Côtes du Rhône.

Aromas

Plum, raspberry, dark chocolate, leather, graphite, and touch of smoke.

Flavors

Cherry, red currant, lingonberry, dry strawberry, plum, dark chocolate, and toast.

Conclusion

While it’s made following the traditional methods, it doesn’t taste like Old World style wine. It doesn’t feel like New World either.

The winemaker was able to achieve the balance of in between those two styles and made wine that can satisfy wine swingers of both Worlds.

2015 Domaine Remejeanne is fruity, yet tempered by sensible acidity. It has substantial tannin, and however, it doesn’t overshadow the fruit.

Both tannin and acidity come on the back end to keep us wanting to take another sip to satisfy the thirst for this delightful and outstanding value wine. It strikes a balance between quality and price that landed this wine on our under $20 recommendation list.
