2018 Nervi Conterno Il Rosato

2018 Nervi Conterno Il Rosato is Nebbiolo based Rosé from Gattinara comune in Piedmont.

Founded in 1906, Nervi is the oldest cantina in Gattinara with two greatest crus—Molsino and Valferana—as well as the top sites of Garavoglie and Cassace.

The magic of Nebbiolo lies in its expression of terroir, and it means there are very few places where its genius is fully articulated. The best examples of it found in northwestern Italy in the regions of Piemonte and Lombardia.

Everyone knows the standard set in Barolo and Barbaresco. Still, the forgotten appellations further north also have vast potential with Gattinara leading the way.

The foundation of Gattinara’s success is two-fold. Its soil is a rare vein of volcanic gravel, on steep, high-elevation slopes. Its climate has wide diurnal temperature swings. In combination, that helps to produce complex Nebbiolo with pronounced minerality and exceptionally long life.

And the Nervi vineyards are among Gattinara’s finest. The south-facing amphitheater of Molsino is one of Piedmont’s celebrated vineyards, revered since the 15th century. Valferana’s west-facing slopes can trace their wine history as early as 1231. This cool terroir produces a very elegant and mineral Gattinara to complement the more potent Molsino.
