Four Sparkling Rosé Wines to Taste in 2022

Levert Frères Crémant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé

Levert Frères Crémant de Bourgogne was the first on our list. It came from an estate known for its wines since 1595. It’s located in the Mercurey commune of the Côte Chalonnaise region of Bourgogne. Today it’s run by the Compagnie Vinicole de Bourgogne run Gabriel Picard managing and with David Fernez as head winemaker.

Levert Frères Crémant made following the Traditional Method and from classic Champagne grape – Pinot Noir ( 80% ) and Beaujolais darling – Gamay (20% ). The grapes were sourced from vineyards in Mercurey. The wine spent up to 24 months on the lees.

The straw pink-colored Levert Frères started with aromas of fresh raspberries, baked apples, wet stone, and a touch of cookie dough aromas. The creamy palate is well-balanced with flavors of red apple, rose petals tea, nectarine, pear, and light minerality. The aftertaste felt like a bite of buttery croissant.

Levert Frères Crémant Rosé reminded us of 2019 Marsannay Rosé – still Pinot Noir based wine from the same region.

Jacqueline Leonne Méthode Champenoise Rosé

Have you tasted bubbles from New Mexico? Here’s your chance.

Jacqueline Leonne Rosé, just like the first wine, was made following the Champagne method but came from another continent and a promising American wine region.

This 100% Pinot Noir Rosé Sparkling had a salmon pink color and a tiny mousse bubble. Compared to the previous wine, it felt less creamy on the palate yet balanced and crispy as we would expect from traditionally made brut.

The palate and nose are driven by crisp red apple, cranberries, and raspberries. If you don’t care much for minerality and brioche aromas in your bubbles, this might be your wine.

While enjoyable, it lacked the sophistication of Levert Frères Crémant.

Villa Conchi Brut Rosé Cava

Villa Conchi Rosé is hardly a mainstream Cava because it’s made with 100% Trepat grape.

To ensure freshness and retain fruit, the grapes were harvested at night to avoid high temperatures and premature fermentation and transported quickly to the wine cellar to be refrigerated before the light pressing. Fermentation is done at 16°C to preserve the character and primary aromas. For the second bottle fermentation, wine is stored in underground wine cellars at a constant temperature of 15°-17°C and aged on lees for at least 12 months to add body and texture.

The strawberry pink Cava smells and tastes as it looks. The strawberry compote, lingonberry, yellow apple, and chalky minerality come through in aroma and flavors. It’s fruity, balanced, and creamy. Not your average Cava, for sure!

Tissot-Maire Crémant du Jura Brut Rosé

Tissot-Maire Crémant comes from the Jura wine region located between Burgundy and Switzerland, on the Eastern border of France.

The wine is made primarily from Pinot Noir and is complemented by two local grapes, Trousseau and Poulsard. The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed uncrushed. Crémant du Jura made following Méthode Champenoise and matured on lees for at least 12 months.

The pale copper-pink Rosé has aromas of candied red apple, apple pie, and limestone minerality. On the palate, it’s creamy with an almost off-dry sensation and flavors of raspberry candy, red currant, brioche, and baked apple.

Tissot-Maire Crémant can pair well with the entire dinner, from paté and charcuterie to duck, lamb, or pork for the main course and to red berries desserts with moderate acidity.

And the Winner Is

Our favorite of four was Tissot-Maire Crémant du Jura Brut Rosé because its complex profile, creamy mousse, and perfect balance between acidity and sweetness.
