Ambriel Blanc de Blancs 2010

Ambriel Blanc de Blancs

Ambriel Blanc de Blancs 2010 proves that to enjoy Champagne, you don’t have to look for only French producers.

Ambriel Blanc de Blancs is made following Méthode Champenoise but across La Manche in England. It’s 100% Chardonnay, like any Blanc de Blancs from the Champagne region. And the kicker is that it’s a vintage sparkling that tends to cost substantially more in France because it’s only made during exceptional years and in tiny quantities.

So how did it taste? Did it stand up to its authentic French brethren?
Oh, yes! It did! And then more!

The 2010 Blanc de Blancs had the classic aromas we expect from Champagne: fresh apple slice, lemon rind, waxy, and brioche toast.
Tiny bubbles rising to the top of the glass set our expectation of a creamy sensation on the palate. Yet, it was not as delicate as we would like.
The flavors were a natural continuation of brioche and green apple on the nose with the addition of lime flesh.

If you are in the mood for a classic, the 2010 Ambriel Blanc de Blancs fits the bill and makes a perfect brunch companion for Kumamoto oysters or wild-caught pan-seared Alaskan halibut. But to do a complete British immersion, have it with Fish & Chips.

What are your thoughts if you tried English bubbles? Any favorites?
