Anniversary The Wine Way

Anniversary The Wine Way

If you were in love with each other and in love with wine, where would you celebrate your wedding anniversary?

We imagined something like this: the sun sets over the Columbia River, casting a warm glow as we sip delicious wine with our friends, watching the sunset. Sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?. And that’s precisely how our anniversary went!

When we imagined it, it was hard to beat Willamette Valley Vineyards tasting room nestled at the waterfront of downtown Vancouver, Washington. We’ve been exploring the food and drinks of the Vancouver Waterfront for a while: check out our guide for this location!

With all of that in mind, wine still rules the day. In search of a perfect wedding anniversary spot, wine tasting was a major part of the quest. We had to keep in mind not just our preferences but the tastes of our friends. Willamette Valley Vineyards hit the spot and best satisfied our strict requirements.

Serge—our resident wine guru—took on the Herculean task of selecting the perfect wines. He tasted so many beforehand that I’m pretty sure he’s now qualified to give TED Talks on the nuances of how to pick a wine list for your friends! His mission? To ensure every guest found their ideal pour (and their tastes are pretty diverse)—no pressure at all, right?

As a greeting pour, we picked Pinot Noir Rosé, and the first toast we celebrated with Méthode Champenoise Brut (classic blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir). For those who like dry whites, we selected Pinot Gris, and for friends with a sweet tooth, Late Harvest Riesling, which went just as well with dessert. On the red side, the Estate Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley was everyone’s favorite. Our friends with a taste for bold reds were delighted with our pick – Pambrun’s (sister winery) Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon from Eastern Washington.

As friends and family arrived, the mood was getting more exciting by the minute. The toasts flowed as freely as the wine, and let’s just say, some stories got a pretty exciting—who knew romance could be so rich?!

What about you? What’s your go-to wine for the memorable moments? And cheers to life’s big and little moments worth celebrating!
