Aperol Spritz Cocktail

Aperol Spritz

Aperol Spritz cocktail has become a staple these days. You will find it almost anywhere in cocktail bars and Italian and non-Italian restaurants that serve lunch and brunch on sunny patios. It even has its own website!

Two brothers, Luigi and Silvio Barbieri created Aperol as an aperitif unique to Padua. They launched the production in 1919, but the cocktail was created only in the 1950s.

Aperol Spritz is a marriage of bubbly wine, sparkling water, and Aperol. That’s right, the marriage of three. After all, it is a modern cocktail.
Mix three parts Italian prosecco, two parts Aperol, and a splash of soda, and it is done! Easy and simple. You can mix it at home without measuring and still be happy about the result!

We like the cocktail for its low alcohol content, which makes it a perfect drink on hot summer days when you want to enjoy the weather and still be able to walk after a couple of drinks with friends.

If you need the exact measurements, here they are:

  • 3 oz Prosecco
  • 2 oz Aperol
  • 1 oz Soda

About the Ingredients

Proseccos range from sweet to dry, so choose one that hits the sweetness level you prefer. We usually choose the one we like to drink without mixing such as Albino Armani Prosecco.

We tried other Italian aperitifs to use instead of Aperol. They are all different and therefore change the cocktail’s flavor a lot. For example, Campari makes the drink a lot less sweet. The best aperitif, in our opinion, would be Cappelletti Specialino.

Some people don’t add soda at all. We think water always enhances flavors (paradox) by letting them mix better. We call it “diluting the borders.” You might want to add less than an ounce of soda, though. It all depends on your mood, right?
