First time we tasted Paul O’Brien Dolcetto 2017 at their winery in Roseburg, and our first impression was that this wine is for fall!
Autumn in Pacific Northwest is when the oenophile starts feeling notes of pinot noir in the air: forest floor, mushrooms, wet stones, and earthiness. We love drinking pinot noir during the fall months, but drinking Dolcetto from South Oregon is even more fun!
And South Oregon Dolcetto is different from what you usually expect from Italian Dolcetto.
This time we tasted Paul O’Brien Dolcetto 2017, which we purchased when visiting their tasting room earlier this year.
There is more sour and sweet ripe black cherry than plum notes. It has a dense, high alcohol and high acidity structure. Very straightforward, robust, and definitely not shy.
Vanilla and prune on the finish make it favorable for meat and cheese pairing, but we can also see how it can be enjoyed without food.
Do you like Dolcetto? What do you pair it with?
