When we visit the Lake Chelan wine region in Eastern Washington, we always bring back something interesting – new flavors to meditate on and compare to the same varietals from other regions.
This time it was 2021 Estate Viognier by Nefarious winery and 2021 Viognier by Succession.
Nefarious Estate Viognier 2021
On our 2022 summer trip to Lake Chelan, this Viognier was among our three favorites. This playful and delightful wine was dominated by orange on the nose and the palate.
It finished with a distinct lemon candy note, complemented by white peach and lemon aromas. It brought back childhood memories, sunny days of careless summers, and endless fun without any responsibilities.
Succession Viognier 2021
While in some way similar and driven by honeyed orange, peach, and tropical flower aromas, it is delivered on the palate with flavors of orange, mandarine, lemon, mango, and pineapple.
It’s almost off-dry and balanced by sensible acidity. 2021 Succession Viognier is another formidable Viognier from Washington.
