Von Winning Pinot Noir Rosé 2020

Von Winning Pinot Noir Rosé 2020

Von Winning Pinot Noir Rosé 2020 is another winning wine for the coastal day trip. Why winning? The clue is in the name and the taste. Why another? Because it would make an excellent addition to our Beach and Pool Wine Guide.

Von Winning Winery Story

Since 1849 Von Winning Winery has produced unique wines from the estate vineyards in Ruppertsberg, Deidesheim, and Forst of Pfalz wine region of Germany.

In 1907, Leopold von Winning continued to meticulously raise the quality of the wines to a new level and became a founding member of VDP, an association of premium German wineries. His philosophy to work in tune with nature remains the overarching goal of today’s young and ambitious team led by Stephan Attmann, a self-confessed wine geek with a remarkable winemaking experience.

The vineyard’s intensive and sustainable work combines the original viticultural principles and modern techniques. The layout of the high-density vineyards doesn’t follow the machine’s design or “efficient” cultivation methods allowing the vineyards to regain the face of earlier times!

The fermentation is often done without artificial cooling and in oak barrels of various sizes and always using indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wines are bottled with minimal handling and often without the aid of filtration. This approach results in the distinctive style of Von Winning wine that reflects the terroir of world-class vineyards, such as the legendary Kirchenstuck of Forst.

Von Winning Pinot Noir Rosé 2020

In the Bottle

Von Winning Pinot Noir Rosé 2020 is 100% Pinot Noir grapes. Interestingly, in Germany, Pinot Noir is called Spätburgunder and can be used interchangeably on the label.

The fruit for this wine came from 25-year-old vines from sites across Deidesheim and Ruppertsberg. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain the fruitiness and juicy profile of the Rosé.

In the Glass

The 2020 rosé had a pale salmon pink color that paired great with blue skies and the roaring Pacific Ocean.

Von Winning Rosé has aromas of dried roses, ripe strawberries, and red currants.

On the palate, it has a light bite of effervescence, crips, and a refreshing profile driven by Conellian cherries and wild strawberries with a touch of chalky minerality.

Aftertaste

The refreshing red berry profile makes Von Winning Rosé an ideal companion for a day trip to the ocean shore.

It’s a food-friendly wine that can pair excellently with typical picnic foods like burgers, hot dogs, party wings, chips, and salads.

If you have never tried German Rosé wines, Von Winning is a good wine to start with.
