The Famille Bourgeois
The Famille Bourgeois are the winemakers in the 11th generation. The domain covers 72 hectares on the best Terroir of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé appellations. The foundation of current success was laid by Henri Bourgeois over 50 years ago. Today, the vineyards lie on some of the most rugged hillside terrains, offering the best exposures in the Loire Valley.
Back in the 1950s, Henri started vineyard with cultivating two hectares on the slopes of Chavignol in a yet unknown area. His sons, Jean-Marie and Rémi, joined him in the 1960s and continued the adventure. They discovered new terroirs and developed partnerships with other Sancerre vine growing families, and turned themselves into the #1 ambassador of Sancerre in France and later abroad.
Today, Arnaud, Lionel, and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois continue the tradition of infamous wine of the house. The family remains committed to Henri’s original viticultural vision, showcasing the purity of Sancerre’s unique terroirs.

In the Bottle
In case you didn’t know
We tasted this wine in early 2020, and it felt beautiful. It needed some time in the bottles to mature to be ready for us, and it was worth the wait.
Grape for this wine came from the well-exposed steep slopes around Chavignol village.
Aromas
The warm 2015 vintage was apparent in aromas of ripe passion fruit, mango, and warm peach. Yet it showed hallmark Sancerre minerality, fresh-cut grass, and sea breeze notes.
Flavors
On the palate, it had a more substantial body. As expected from Sancerre, we tasted lemon, grapefruit, minerality, and more. The passion fruit and nectarine added more depth to the wine.
Conclusion
We had a chance to compare this wine with a stellar example of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It was no contest.
The passion fruit note in Sancerre was an equalizer. The finesse and depth of character made French Sauv Blanc an easy favorite.
