Karma comes in many forms. This time we found it at Karma Winery in the Lake Chelan wine region of Washington state.
Karma Vineyards
Karma Vineyards began in 2002 when Julie and Bret came for Thanksgiving to Lake Chelan and fell in love with the area. The started the search for the winery site on Black Friday and found 14 acres of land that now called Karma. The rest is history and delicious wine.
On our visit to Lake Chelan wine region Karma was recommended by almost every winery we visited.
Champagne and sparkling wine is our weak spot, and Karma is famous for its bubbles. It also was recommended by other wineries for its wine and restaurant.
It's hard to beat lunch with bubbles on a sunny summer afternoon!
Karma Tasting Flight
We tasted nine wines, including Rosé-eh of Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurtztraminer, Chardonnay, Zen red blend, and three sparkling wines made using méthode champenoise.
The sparkling was a horizontal flight of different styles of 2014 vintage: Brut, Brut de Brut (the driest) and Brut de Noir. The grapes for first two came from a large Columbia Valley appellation, and Brut de Noir was made estate fruit.
We picked 2014 Brut de Noir as our favorite for two reasons. First, it impressed with its aroma and flavor profile. Second, the goal of our wine swinging expedition was to explore Lake Chelan terroir, and Brut de Noir was a great representation of it.

So what did we get in the glass?
2014 Brut de Noir is made from two classic black grapes 83% Pinot Noir and 17% Pinot Meunier. Both are from the estate vineyard located on southern slopes of Lake Chelan.
It's pale golden in a glass with properly rising fine bubbles. True to the class Karma Brut de Noir greeted us with aromas of fresh-baked bread, apple tart, and lemon. On the palate, mousse feels creamy and creates a mouthful sensation. The flavors of apple pie and ripe lemon are in unison with aromas. The finish is well-balanced and slightly off-dry.
