Resilienza Donnachiara 2018 Beneventano Falanghina

Resilienza Donnachiara 2018 is one of the reasons why it’s hard for us to say what’s our favorite wine. We keep finding new favorites weekly. As Wine Swingers, we keep our minds open and taste buds ready.

Ever heard of the grape Falanghina? It’s a native Italian grape, and Resilienza 2018 is 100% Falanghina.

Falanghina Grape

Falanghina is native to Campania and one of its most ancient grapes. Some think that the brownish wine long-aged Falernum, arguably the most famous wine in classical literature, was made from Falanghina.

In the mid-1990s, it became pretty popular in Italy, and today it’s the most planted white grape of Campania.

Recently DNA profiling determined that there are two distinct Falanghina grapes: Falanghina Flegrea and Falanghina Beneventana.

Resilienza 2018 is made from Falanghina Beneventa grown in Taburia area.

So what made Donnahiara Resilienza 2018 one of our favorites?

It was more than its ancestry. Resilienza is hard to resist.

The aromas and flavors of ripe apricot, mango, orange rind, and tropical flowers make you think of summer and vacation.

A touch of minerality and dried apricot on the finish made us want to take another sip. And another, and…

Finish

Just recalling this wine made us salivate and want to run to the store to grab a bottle. I hope now you see why it became an instant favorite for us. It has a story and a taste. Coupled with a reasonable price, it instantly earned the spot on our best value list under $20.
