Kramer Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir 2017

Kramer Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir 2017 was one of the wines we tasted at the Kramer winery during our visit in summer 2020.

Limited to outside tasting only, Oregon wineries embraced the warm summer weather as an opportunity to showcase as many wines as possible in a single visit. Kramer Vineyards, locally known mostly for its sparkling wines, offered t us to taste several pinot noir vintages as well.

Estate Pinot Noir 2017 became one of the bottles we chose to bring home.

Kramer Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir 2017 Yamhill-Carlton

Kramer Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir 2017 is one of those Oregon pinot noirs that doesn’t punch your face with overwhelming ripe red and dark cherry notes. Instead, it rather invites you to observe how all the notes play out together.

In The Glass

This Pinot Noir definitely has a character! A softer one, than many Yamhill Carlton pinot noir wines that we know!

Light ruby, with an almost transparent rim, this pinot has pronounced yet elegantly incorporated tannins. On a nose, we sense cherry and rose petals, pink peppercorns, and caramelized berry jam. On the palate, ripe sour cherry, cornelian cherry, and tayberry make it all about red berries. By the way, tayberry, a cross between blackberry and raspberry, is available locally only for a short period during summer. We couldn’t find any other flavor to describe our sensation.

Finish and Pairing

Comparing to other Yamhill Carlton pinot noir wines, Kramer Estate Pinot Noir 2017 has a much softer approach to your palate. Even though it has spicy notes, it will pair better with non-spicy dishes. Baked wild-caught Alaskan Salmon with a light salad comes to mind as a perfect pairing.

Medium acidity, low on alcohol (13%), this pinot noir has a medium finish and the aftertaste revolving around the red berries.
