Chateau de Pressac Grand Cru Classe Saint Emillion 2018

It is too early to drink Chateau de Pressac Grand Cru Classe 2018, yet, we decided to take some notes to compare them later. 

Chateau de Pressac was founded in the Middle Ages. Historians cited it in 1453 in connection with Hundreds Year War. Jean Francois and Dominique Quenin became the new owners of the Chateau in 1997 and did the major development work on the vineyards. In 2012 the Chateau received the Grand Cru Classe status recognizing the excellence of the terroir, the vineyards, the wines, and the estate management.

This vinatge is a blend of 

  • merlot
  • cabernet franc 
  • cabernet sauvignon 
  • noir de pressac
  • carménère
  • petit verdot

Have you ever tasted wine made from Noir de Pressac? We bet you did! This varietal has about 130 synonyms. In our native country Moldova it is also called Nuar de Presac and Cagors. Can you guess what is it called in South America?

Chateau de Pressac Grand Cru Classe 2018 Notes

Yes, it is a bit too early to drink 2018 Saint Emillion now, but we had to taste what we are putting in the cellar. 

On a nose, we sensed black currant, smoked plum, tar, and eucaliptus with a touch of green bell pepper and tarragon. On a palate, the plum notes became more sophisticated, accompanied by chocolate, cocoa nibs, and ripe black cherries. On a finish, we discovered pleasant walnut bitterness, dark chocolate, and plum.

We look forward to drinking it in several years from now.
