Tangerine Eggnog Cocktail

Tangerine Eggnog Cocktail

Eggnog Cocktail is one of the classic drinks of the Christmas holiday season. In the modified version of Eggnog Cocktail, we used our favorite ingredients. Surprise, surprise, no wine this time!

About Eggnog

The first time the word “nog” appeared in the English language around the 1690s. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, it meant “a kind of strong beer brewed in East Anglia.” An alternative definition is that nog is a derivative of “noggin,” a Middle English term for a drinking vessel.

Today eggnog drink is a mix of cream, egg whites, egg yolks, and sugar.

Eggnog Cocktail Ingredients

An eggnog cocktail usually includes brandy, whiskey, rum, or bourbon to balance the sweetness.

You may use the top-shelf spirits, but it’s not necessary. The finesse might be overpowered by the cream and eggs mixture.

Using some spices can help to add an extra layer of flavors. Depending on the spirits you use, try experimenting with nutmeg, allspice, and vanilla.

Our Version: Tangerine Eggnog Cocktail

We used the fresh-squeezed juice of tangerine, orange liquor, brandy, store-bought eggnog, and organic nutmeg. Luckily, the eggnog was just the way we like it, lightly sweetened. For a sweeter version, you may add simple syrup or orange-flavored syrup.

To make the cocktail combine all the ingredients in a shaker with ice and mix it vigorously for 30 seconds.

Cocktails always taste better when they look beautiful. We decorated ours with a homemade candied tangerine. Alternatively, a slice of fresh tangerine would’ve worked as well`. It contributes both sweetness and acidity and adds another dimension to the cocktail.

We had some doubts about store-bought eggnog because we are big fans of cooking from scratch. To our surprise, the Tangerine Eggnog Cocktail earned the spot among the fun new things we tasted this year. Plus, it can be dinner in a glass because it’s so calorie-rich. Extra bonus: it takes like 3-5 minutes to make.

Did you try making an eggnog cocktail at home yet? If you did, what’s your secret recipe? Any other favorite holiday cocktails?
