Arnaud Lambert 'Breze' Clos Mazurique 2020

Arnaud Lambert ‘Breze’ Clos Mazurique 2020 is an organic, barrel-aged red wine made by Arnaud Lambert using Cabernet Franc in the Saumur-Champigny denomination in the Loire region.

We’ve been tasting several wines from this producer over the last few years. They have a typical Loire character, and we are always pleased with them.

Château de Brézé

Château de Brézé has been around since at least the 15th century when it was served to royalty and held in the same regard as Château d’Yquem. 

In 2009, the new owner of the estate asked Yves Lambert and his son, Arnaud, from Domaine de Saint-Just, to manage the property. They got a 25-year lease and began converting the estate to organic farming. In less than a decade, they’ve restored the wines to the heights they achieved centuries ago.

Arnaud Lambert ‘Breze’ Clos Mazurique 2020 comes from vines with an average age of 25 years old planted on the Loire’s sandy loam and limestone soils. They have been cultivated using sustainable agriculture certified organic since 2012 and biodynamic treatments since 2018. Yields are limited to 45 hl/he, and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. 

In the winery, the grapes selected to make Clos Mazurique are vinified in stainless steel and concrete tanks, spontaneously and with native yeasts. Then the wine ages for 12 months in 2 and 3-year-old oak barrels.

In the Glass

It’s what you want in Loire cab franc: pencil shavings, a touch of bell pepper, a violet-floral-perfumed nose, dark ripe plums, medium-weight, light tannins.

The palate is light, fresh, and energetic, with red plum, herbs, and ripe cherry flavors.

The refreshing finish feels like biting into a fresh-picked juicy, mouth-watering Morello cherry and makes you want to reach for the next one.

Food Pairing

The winemaker suggests pairing this wine with beef carpaccio and parmesan, poached turbot in red butter, and forest pie. We had it with beef carpaccio and entirely agreed with the winemaker. 

We are adding it to our Wine List and recommend you try it. This wine often sells fast, so get enough to age (4-6 years).
